Day 1 On the Slopes

On Friday, we ate a hearty breakfast, fried up by Che’ Tate, and suited up for the slopes. It was partly cloudy with snow flakes mixing in here and there to start the day, and not a hint of a breeze at all. Flossie only made it a few runs before her back began bothering her, so she called it an early day. Tate, Laura and I continued hitting the runs as the snow flakes continued to fall. The sun would pop through for a minute, then quickly slide behind the clouds. We started making our way down the hill around 3:30, and coasted down the residential access run, kicked out of the boards, and it was a short hike back to the condo and hot tub !

Activity Details for Snowboarding 2010 – Park City Resort – Day 1.

Saturday is an off day (more hot-tubbing), then some exploring around town. We will be back up on the mountain Sunday, with a few more inches of new snow in the forecast.

Good amount of snow on the ground, but clear roads. Changing our plans with Gramma, and meeting her in a few hours due to snow rolling into eastern Wyoming.

Departing Boise ~13:30 MST for Ogden. Tomorrow, Green River and a kid hand-off to Gramma and Grandpa, then a long weekend with the Hagmans in Park City.

Christmas Pageant

Last Wednesday, Tyler’s class had their Christmas Pageant, so Flossie and I slipped out of the office for a bit to catch the festivities. First up, the kids meandered on out and took up their positions:

On the docket was a compilation of eight or so songs, lasting about 60-90 seconds a pop. I tried to limit my obnoxious parent actions, but did capture a few of the songs with the phone…

After the presentation, the kids headed back to their room, and we gathered around as there arose such a clatter. The kids sat all together, and wondered what was the matter. When, what to all our wondering eyes should appear, but Santa Claus with a bag of candy canes for all. Each kid had a chance to come up to Santa and tell him what they wanted for Christmas, and judging by this small sample size, there will be a run on dolls and transformers.

Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars showed up from Grandpa Lance, and the kid wasted no time getting into the packages and finding the tasty chocolate treats hidden behind “1″. So far, the calendars remain out of reach of the cunning canines, but the candioholic Nora has swiped Tyler’s a couple times and almost made off with a few days worth of goodies.

Some Randomness

Some random tidbits from south western Idaho…

Stupid electronics. The Pioneer took a nosedive a few days after Thanksgiving. Google points the problem at a bad video board (apparently there are two of them, one for the top half, and one for the bottom half of the screen) which is causing the top half of the screen to go black with a few green bars. Going to have to take it in and get an estimate, or hoping for another lightning strike. For now, we have transplanted the Panasonic from the bedroom into the living room…but…it looks a tad odd…

Without the TV in the living room last Sunday morning, Nora and I did daddy/daughter things like getting bad guys in Warcraft and playing with Nora’s babies. At one point, Nora climbed on the couch and wanted me to take her picture because she is gorgeous.

The pets are getting by, but they are getting up in their years. Eros is much more stubborn and settled in her ways with her advancing years, becoming more nosey around the dinner table as well as comfortable asserting her desire for the prime comfort zones of the house. Ralph is doing OK. He just came off a prescription to fight off an infection, and it has made his breath much better. We will have to see how it plays out, he may still need some dental work to make those pearly whites shine. He has slowed considerably this year, and we have been trying some Rimmadyl to see how things work out. We’ve been on a few walks of late, and while he can make it, a turtle may pass us on our next stroll. Nicademous has his snotty nose back, so frequent sneezing is the norm, especially around four or five in the morning.

Uno Champion

It amazes me how quickly my kids are growing up. Today, after Nora went down for her nap, Tyler wanted to play a game. I figured we’d have a rousing game of Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders. However, he found our Simpson’s Uno set in the closet. At that point, I was informed that he had been playing Uno at Leanne’s (Tyler’s daycare). I was a bit surprised, but thought, okay, I’ll play Uno with Tyler. I figured it would be a lot me correcting him on the rules, etc as the box recommended age started at 7 years old.

Could I have been more wrong?! Tyler and I played 11 games, of which I won 4. Yes… Tyler is the Uno champion. The first couple of games, I was not playing “ruthless”. I mean, I am playing a 4 year old, albeit not for long. I decided to change my tactic and try and actually win a few games… I still lost.

And not only does he understand the rules, he also has the strategy down. He’s using the “skip” cards and changing the colors with the numbers, and I even happened to notice at one point, when I had laid down a Wild card to change the color and I only had one card in my hand (Uno). I noticed that even though he had the “red” card in his hand, he played his own Wild card to prevent me from winning the game.

I have a feeling that I have a future professional poker player in the family!
